About Us

Narok High School holds a position of historical preeminence in the South Rift region. Established in December 1962 as Narok Secondary School, it was among the first secondary institutions in the region following Kenya's independence.

For nearly three decades, the school operated as a mixed-gender institution, providing a rare co-educational platform for the community. However, in 1989, a strategic policy shift saw the school transition into a purely boys' boarding school. This evolution led to the creation of Maasai Girls Secondary School, which took over the female enrollment, allowing Narok High to specialize in the mentorship and academic development of young men.

The school's stability is reflected in its administrative history. From its first Principal, Mr. C.O. Shaw, to the current head, Mr. Malcom Mateu, the institution has been guided by 25 principals. Each administration has contributed to the expansion of infrastructure and the maintenance of high disciplinary standards.

Narok High School is geographically and strategically positioned in Narok Town along the Narok-Nakuru Highway. This accessibility has contributed to its growth into a high-capacity national school with a population exceeding 1,500 students.

As a "moulding institution," the school offers a rigorous academic environment. It is currently successfully navigating the national transition in education systems — providing a strong finish for the final cohorts of Form Three and Form Four students under 8-4-4, while actively implementing Competency-Based Education to prepare junior cohorts for the demands of the modern workforce.

The institution is renowned for producing well-rounded individuals through its immense success in co-curricular activities, achieving accolades at regional, national, and international levels. The school is deeply integrated into the fabric of society, recognized not just as a center for literacy, but as a forge for the leaders who shape the socio-political landscape of Kenya.
